About

Kazia and Emily are graduate students and avid fans of pop culture. Kazia is studying children’s literature and library science and is particularly interested in the ways that gender, childhood, and other social constructs are approached in media of all sorts. Emily works on early modern English literature and focuses on book history and media theory.

Kazia and Emily met while studying abroad in England during college and bonded over their mutual loves of Doctor Who, Emma Thompson, and lady-led YA fantasy. Since then their friendship has been colored by regular discussions of pop culture, identity politics, and fandom. At the moment, Emily is waiting for Kazia to get caught up on Buffy and Battlestar Galactica, and Kazia is waiting for Emily to finish watching Lost and Jane the Virgin.

Kazia is currently obsessed with Call the Midwife, Lumberjanes, and coloring books. For as long as she can remember, she has loved picture book biographies and feminist fantasy like the Enchanted Forest Chronicles and Ella Enchanted. She avidly awaits new installments of Carmilla and Rock & Riot, wishes Netflix would add new period dramas, and is always on the hunt for more queer feminist media to consume.

Emily is currently obsessed with podcasts, superhero comics, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and The Toast. She absolutely adores Gene Wolfe, Guy Gavriel Kay, L. M. Montgomery, and The Lord of the Rings. She’s waiting for the second seasons of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and iZombie, can’t wait to read Lila and Wolf Hall, and is looking for more recommendations of geeky tv shows and awesome comic books.
